October, Let's be Thankful!

First thing we can be thankful for is the land we live on. How blessed we are! But when will our First Nations brothers and sisters be compensated for the land and all that they have suffered?

Our theme song for this month is: KEEP LOVING: A Universal Love Song | Empty Hands Music | nimo (click here for video)

Most Canadians from other countries can be so thankful for the abundance they have and their privilege in our society, but the First Nations people have been treated so unfairly and yet their Elders insist on forgiveness and continue to promote education on caring for the planet as well as understanding how every child matters and that everyone is deserving of respect. One Elder said in a documentary that we are all brothers and sisters, not just First Nations, but all people.

We can learn so much from the First Nations culture and
beliefs. They speak of understanding other people, respecting other cultures and showing loving kindness to all, not just in their own society. Sounds like the most fundamental teachings of Christianity, if following the teachings of Jesus Christ when He walked on Earth.

Let's remember to listen to others to hear the whole story before we judge and embrace the ways we have in common.

Let's be thankful for the abundance we have here in Canada. Let's rejoice together while sharing with those in need.

Thankful, sung by Josh Groban. (click here for the video)

Scriptures and meditations:

Luke 10: 36-37. Which of these three do you think was a
neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Galatians 3: 26-29. So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:15-17. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

1John 4:7. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

What we are praying for:

God, help our government to be sensitive to the needs of the people in the First Nations. Grant them the wisdom in their communication with them and how to meet their needs. Grant the First Nations wisdom in dealing with the Canadian Government and help them to heal. Bring enlightenment to our nation on the history of the First Nation peoples and how we should be reconciled.

God, bring peace to our city streets. Save and heal those who are involved in drugs, gangs and carry weapons. Help them to know you and your peaceful ways. Banish fear from our hearts and bring reconciliation between every citizen in our city. Bring healing to all those who are homeless and those suffering drug addiction. Protect and guide all those who volunteer their time to help those involved.

God, bring peace to our world. Please stop leaders from acting aggressively against other countries. Protect civilians caught in the crossfires of war. May protesters for peace be heard. Grant them the wisdom to lobby effectively. Grant every country leaders who will work for the good of the people and for peace with all other nations.

Thanks for praying with us!
