May Prayers 2019

The brightness of Spring will soon arrive!!

It's been a long winter and it has not warmed up yet at the beginning of this month.
There has been a series of violent events and people are still grieving and recovering.
There have been horrific accidents and terrible acts of nature.
This month we are praying for those affected by these events.
There is hope, there is comfort, although for many difficult to receive.
We must remember:
Humboldt, The Toronto van attack, the Synagogues, mosques and churches attacked,
the Max 8 plane crashes, and those affected by suicide among our police force and military and those affected by floods and other acts of nature.

God, we pray for those who have lost loved ones due to disease, accident, acts of nature or acts of violence.
Please open their hearts to your love and forgiveness
and help them to have the courage to live in honour of those they lost.
Help those injured to have the courage to face life's challenges and know they are loved.
May they get the help and encouragement they need.
May those who have lost their home find
a better place and have the strength to adapt.

God we pray for those who are affected by the murders in the Gay Village of Toronto.
May they have the power to forgive and live without fear.
May everyone be protected from acts of violence
and may love and kindness continue among the people there.

God, protect our police and military from violence. Bring healing to all those traumatized.
May they have the medical help they need and the encouragement of others.
God, may mental health and trauma be understood
and be attended to appropriately here in Canada and the U.S.
May all those who suffer recognize it and get the understanding and help they need.
God, help all those bereaved. Comfort them, strengthen them.
Give them your grace to live with passion in honour of those who have gone before them.

Let's remember that those who carried out acts of violence are someone's child too.
God, we pray for the mothers and the family of those offenders.
Please may they be able to heal and find forgiveness and comfort in their hearts.
God, please help those who have done the wrongs to allow your love to heal them.

God, help the world's nations to be peaceful towards each other
and have the wisdom to stop terrorism.
Help the world leaders to turn to peaceful ways of negotiating
and seek peace for the whole world.

Scriptures and meditations:

2 Corinthians 1:3-4. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

John 1:5. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Quotes:
Martin Luther King Jr.- " Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
Leonard Cohen- " There's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.

Sometimes we are tested by fire!
Let the fire of God's love fill and strengthen you!
Let the fire of God's Holy Spirit inspire and guide you,
and let it comfort you and give you peace!

Thank you for praying with us!
